Since December 2016, the First Sky Group has executed a programme that substantially increases health financing, access to quality essential health-care services and access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines through the free dialysis project at the Korle Bu Renal Unit. Health financing has taken the form of payment of the cost of renal treatment and management for patients at the Renal Dialysis Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. The project began with an initial sum of Six Hundred and Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS 620,000.00) and a further donation of an amount of Two million Ghana cedis (GHS 2,000,000.00) as an endowment fund for the treatment of all patients at the dialysis unit. As at December 2021, a total amount of Twenty Million Ghana Cedis (GHc20,000,000.00) has been disbursed on this project.
In 2023, we collaborated with Restore Worldwide Inc., hosting a team of 30 skilled volunteers led by Dr. Michael Obeng. The team performed reconstructive surgeries on 132 individuals at the Ho Teaching Hospital. Volta Serene Hotel proudly provided full accommodation, meals, and entertainment for the medical team throughout their 1 week stay.
In addition to this, we donated essential health supplies to the hospital. Recognizing the need for improved healthcare infrastructure, we also took the initiative to renovate the Out Patient Department, ensuring a more comfortable and efficient environment for both patients and healthcare workers. This collaboration underscored our deep commitment to social impact, healthcare support, and community well-being.
As part of our commitment to education and community development, we extended our support to two Senior High Schools by donating 200 bags of cement each to aid in crucial infrastructural projects. This contribution aligns with our mission to foster a conducive learning environment for students, ensuring they have the necessary facilities to excel academically.
Furthermore, our longstanding scholarship scheme continues to make a lasting impact by empowering young graduates across various industries. We take immense pride in witnessing the fruits of this initiative, with many beneficiaries now excelling in their respective fields. A recent milestone in our journey of educational support is the graduation of our first medical student from the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS)—a testament to our dedication to nurturing future leaders and professionals who will contribute meaningfully to society.
Active participation in cultural and festival celebrations is integral to our commitment. In 2023, we hosted the Guest of Honor, The President of Guinea-Bissau, at the 66th Independence Day Celebration. Our support remains continuous, extending to the Asogli and Klefe state and their vibrant festive celebrations, including the Yam Festival, enriching the cultural fabric of our community.
